Spring Break with the Grandkids

It's Spring Break and I thought to myself, what a perfect opportunity to spend some time with the grandkids! I asked them if they would like to come over for the week and possibly plan a trip somewhere. They really do like to come over to "chill" and play with our new puppy Bandit, or WII, watch videos...you name it; it's just fun to hang out. Michaela, my granddaughter finished reading 3 of the 4 Twilight series books and said it would be great to go to Forks, WA...what can I say????

I told her we had been to Forks, WA on an overnight motorcycle ride and there was absolutely NOTHING in Forks, except possibly Vampires!

We decided we would go visit Forks on our week-long vacation, but would stay in Port Angeles WA, since there was a bit more to do from that location. I searched on-line for hotels and found the Red Lion in Port Angeles had a "Twilight" package, including a Twilight poster, gift candle, dinner certificate and a self-guided Twilight Map of Forks. OMG, who would have ever thunk it!! What we found is that NO ONE in or anywhere near Forks was above capitalizing on the books or the movie....go figure!

Okay, it was a done deal and off we all went...David, Michaela, Dylan, Bandit and me to the WA Olympic Peninsula, in search of Vampires; only a grandparent would consider such a get-a-way with the grandkids! LOL

We settled into the hotel with the Twilight Gift Basket and checked out the Forks Twilight Self-Guided Map before going to dinner. After breakfast the next morning, off we went to check out where Bella met Edward and how the books evolved.
We arrived in Forks and headed for the Visitor's Center where we would see Bella's old pick-up truck for a photo opp. When we got into the visitor's center Michaela was clicking away on her cell phone cam and Dylan said to the Visitor Center's attendant "I'm not even sure what we are even doing here; I'm not allowed to see the movie and too young to read the books...so I don't get it!!" LOL

I said it was probably time to take "D" to a place he could relate to! We finished up the town's self guided Twilight Tour, and then headed to the Rain Forest. Dylan thought that was pretty cool and it gave him and Bandit a chance to run off their energy!!

The next day David took Dylan & Bandit to Fort Warden, so he could explore the barricks, officer's quarters and do the "guys" thing. Michaela and I went shopping in Port Townsend.

What an awesome 4 day-3 night get away it was; I've started to keep maps of the places we travel with the grandkids, so one day when they are interested in knowing I can show them.

It won't be long before little Adrian will be able to join us; he will definitely make things more interesting and I can't wait!
